Modulated Imaging Wins 2016 Medical Device Innovation Award

Irvine, CA—October 28, 2016

Modulated Imaging received the Orange County (OC) Tech Alliance 2016 Medical Device Innovation Award at the 23rd Annual OC Tech Alliance Award Gala at the Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

Modulated Imaging has developed an optical imaging system that provides physicians with real-time information about tissue health. The company’s Ox-Imager CS (pending FDA clearance) technology will help predict and manage the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.

“Our Ox-Imager device is a non-contact optical imaging system which provides physicians with real-time information on tissue health,” stated David Cuccia, Ph.D., Modulated Imaging’s CEO and founder, “our goal as a company is to eliminate the inevitability of amputations due to diabetic foot ulcers.”

“We’re pleased to recognize Modulated Imaging and the other finalists in the medical device category for the 2016 High-Tech Awards ceremony,” said Peter Craig, CEO, Orange County Technology Alliance.  “With 45 finalists, every one of our award categories was extremely competitive and I congratulate all of them for their innovation.  This was not an easy choice for our judges and we especially congratulate Modulated Imaging for the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that went into creating their Ox-Imager CS.”

Today, diabetic foot ulcers are the most common cause of lower limb amputations, because once they form, they are notoriously difficult to treat. It is estimated that the cost of treating diabetic foot ulcers is as high as $13 billion per year to the U.S. healthcare system alone. In addition to the economic costs, patients have a shorter life expectancy once they have developed a diabetic foot ulcer. Currently, there are no simple to use and accurate technologies to identify diabetic patients who are at-risk for forming a foot ulcer.
